Four Episodes for Bb Bass and Band composed by Mark Ford
Commissioned by my long-time friend and colleague, Geoff Coote. Geoff was a former Principal euphonium for Kew Band Melbourne, a band I conducted for 16 Years. Geoff was also Principal euphonium for many years with the Royal Australian Air Force Band. In 2000, Geoff was named in the Australian ”Band of the Century” on euphonium.
During the Covid 19 period, Geoff, now in retirement, changed to the Bb Bass. In 2024, Geoff asked me to write him a solo work with brass band accompaniment. Immediately I swung into action and composed a piece with 4 short movements with differing moods with the final movement including an excerpt of ”Part of my Heart” (in Wonthaggi), the rural town that Geoff grew up in when he was a youngster.
