Intrada - Lobt Gott den Herrn
Melchior Velpius/Michael Praetorius, arranged for Brass Band by Nynke van der Heide
Nynke van der Heide offers a new take on the traditional Lobt Gott den Herrn in the form of a bold concert ‘opener’.
The piece sees the band work in two teams - the horns, euphoniums, baritones and tubas seated in a crescent formation, and the cornets and trombones, which are instructed to stand around the seated contingent. These two teams play different roles within the piece, alternating between the cornets and trombones delivering fanfare motifs, whilst the seated portion of the band performs the theme.
Intrada is certainly effective as an ‘opener’ and should be easily accessible to lower section bands, making the piece a more manageable alternative to some of the similar, more challenging repertoire in this genre.
